EBAY SELLING TIPS

How to Actually Make Money on eBay

Have you been selling on eBay for awhile and you just aren’t making enough? Do you keep relisting the same items over and over again with 2 views 0 watchers? Here are some ways to up your eBay sales and actually make some money!

BUY IT NOW VS AUCTION

I have found that doing a mixture of both work the best. Everyone has different ways of shopping on eBay. Some like to bid on auctions to try and get a good deal, some like to buy the item now so they don’t have to wait. I often put my older listings on auctions. (If I have a shirt at a buy it now for $8.99 with free shipping, I will do a $4.99 auction with $4 shipping.) Try changing up your listings every time you relist them. Change the price, picture, title, shipping or free shipping.

WHAT TO PRICE AT

Wondering what to price your items at? I do a search, go to completed listings, then see what the average selling price is. I normally price my items a little higher (or average) because I have a higher feedback score. (Click here to find out how to do research on eBay) If I see a Forever 21 Dress is going for about $6-10, I’ll price mine at $12.99 or $14.99 then put a sale on it later if it doesn’t sell within a month or two. I sold tons of $0.99 auctions when I started eBay to get my feedback up (check out more information on that here). I don’t start $0.99 auctions anymore because I have built up my feedback.

The eBay market is so weird; it will shock you what has value and what doesn’t. So even if you paid $125 for your beloved shirt that is 3x too small for you now, it may sell for $0.99 on a 10 day auction. That’s why you have to do research before you list anything at a dollar. (Unless you are a new seller with low feedback- read about that here.) $0.99 auctions work best when you have an expensive brand that you absolutely know will sell for high. They get a lot of watchers because people like to get a good deal. Sometimes auctions go for way more than what you would have listed it as a buy it now.

WHAT TO LIST

Brand names sell best. I have hundreds of items that are brand name and hundreds that are not. One way I like to direct people to my items that aren’t brand name is through sales. If you own an eBay store- use the sale feature! (I definitely recommend buying an eBay store!) I have a buy 2 and get $5 off sale going on most months. This way, people who are going to buy one of my name brand items will look at my other items to save $5.

CHANGE YOUR PICTURES

Pictures sell the item. There is no doubt about that. Check out this post to learn how to improve your pictures. I have changed many of my older pictures for better sales. Something that changed my pictures was a white background. I recommend a background being one of your investments in your eBay store. I got a great deal on mine here.
