Where can you find jeans to resell?

There are many places you can find jeans to resell. I always look through the jeans wherever I am to see if I can find a name brand. When you are looking through racks and racks of jeans, it can get very tiring. Remembering that I’m one jean away from finding one worth $50 keeps me searching. I look at the pockets to spot name brands for faster searching. Below is a few places I go to find jeans to resell, but remember you don’t want to invest too much in a pair. Continue reading to find out how much to invest in jeans to make a profit.

  • Garage sales
  • Goodwill
  • Thrift stores
  • Facebook Marketplace

Many resellers pick jeans up thinking they can sell brands they recognize for a big profit. So they go to thrift stores, garage sales, Facebook Marketplace and buy them hoping to get a nice profit. But a lot of jean brands don’t hold their value. (and they’re $8+ to ship!) It’s so important to do your research so you aren’t losing money on your investment.

Do jeans really sell on eBay?

YES, pre-owned jeans really sell! Buyers want high-quality jeans for 80%+ off the retail price, that’s when they head to eBay, Poshmark, or Mercari. There is also an interesting hipster market on Etsy. Etsy shoppers are looking for vintage Levi’s or Wranglers and they aren’t afraid to spend $80 on a pair. If you have a few vintage items, check out selling them on Etsy. (How to sell on Etsy posts are coming soon!)

How to ship jeans

Shipping jeans is easy! I almost always use a USPS Padded Flat Rate Envelope. Right now it costs $7.50 with the eBay discount. If the jeans won’t fit in that, try a USPS Shoebox which price ranges depending on the buyer’s location, or a Medium Flat Rate Box, which cost about $11. You have to order the Padded Flat Rate Envelope and the Shoebox on USPS.com. You can get them mailed to you for free.

Men’s jean brands that sell

Out of all the men’s jeans listed on eBay in the last year, 59% of them sold for $20 and under, 40% sold for $20-$100, and 1% sold more than $100. This shows that the majority of men’s jeans aren’t selling for much, but it also shows that there is a market to make some money on jeans if you do your research. You make money at the buy. If you invest $5 more in an item, you’re losing $5 profit immediately. I like to stay in the investing $5 and under zone for jeans. (That means no Goodwill shopping unless it’s half price.) Of course, from the above examples you saw that you can still make a good profit even if you invest $10. You just have to do research and make sure it’s worth that!

Other places to sell jeans

Garage Sale | Yard sales are always a fast way to make money if you have a lot of stuff including large items like furniture. They do require a lot of work, a weekend of your time, and dealing with people. You will be making $2-$10 depending on the brand per pair of jeans.

Facebook Marketplace | This is a good place to sell jeans if you don’t want to ship them. You just list them and when they sell you meet someone for cash.

Mercari | Mercari is a great platform to sell your jeans. They charge a 10% final value fee, like eBay. It’s really simple and easy to list on too. Recently sold jeans are selling for $10-$40 depending on the brand. You can list your jeans on eBay and Mercari to double the chance of selling. Just make sure to keep track of what items have sold. If you sign up with this link, you get $10 off your first purchase. (How to sell on Mercari posts coming soon!)

Poshmark | I’m not a huge fan of Poshmark, but it is a popular platform for sellers. It is easy to list your item on so you can always try it out for yourself and decide. They charge a 20% final value fee. So if you are listing one item on a couple of different platforms, just increase your sell price 10% on Poshmark. If you sign up with this link, you get $10 off your first purchase. (How to sell on Poshmark posts coming soon!)

eBay | Of course, eBay is my favorite. There are millions of shoppers and it is so easy to list, sell, and ship. eBay charges a 10% final value fee. Read more: How to Start Selling on eBay.

eBay encouragement

Don’t give up. Sometimes you will get upset because an angry buyer wants to return an item, or you may not make as much as you wanted on an item that sold. The more you sell, the more you figure out what works for you.

Just a few eBay tips:

  • Don’t invest too much on each item, because you make money at the buy.
  • List items just a little more than what they have been selling for. Then don’t be afraid to put a sale on them in a month.
  • Keep your inventory organized as you list. This is key to selling on eBay. Check it out: How to Organize your eBay Inventory
  • Ship items that sell during the day every night. Don’t put it off until the morning. Then set up a pick up on usps.com so you don’t have to leave your house. Check it out: How to Ship Items on eBay
  • Keep your shipping cost low, this is how you make more.
  • Retake your pictures and change up your title if your items are not selling. Check it out: How to Take Good Pictures

One thing to remember: if you don’t list, you don’t last. The more you list on eBay = the more you sell = the more you make. So don’t give up! Keep listing because eBay works.
