High MSRP doesn’t mean high resell value
If you find an item new with the tags for $130, you’re probably thinking cha-ching, right? No. Just because it has an expensive price tag does not mean it will sell for even $5. The eBay market is a wide range not depending on the price paid.
For example, in women’s clothes Micheal Kors purses always sell for high. But Micheal Kors clothes sell for very cheap. Even though the price tag on the shirt says $88, be prepared to list it for $12.99. This is why it is so important to do research at the garage sale or thrift store you are at so you don’t even up with hundreds of dollars in clothes that won’t sell.
Research is one of the most important steps to buying and reselling.
How to do research: Type in your item in the search bar on eBay. Then go to “Filter” and then to “Completed Listings”
That is where you find out how much your item is selling for. Don’t be fooled if you see 50 listings didn’t sell for $10 but one sold for $50. You’re looking for the average selling price. If 45/50 listings sold in the past month for more than $20 or so, it might be a good investment depending on how much you can buy it for.
eBay encouragement
Don’t give up. Sometimes you will get upset because an angry buyer wants to return an item, or you may not make as much as you wanted on an item that sold. The more you sell, the more you figure out what works for you.
- Don’t invest too much on each item, because you make money at the buy.
- List items just a little more than what they have been selling for. Then don’t be afraid to put a sale on them in a month.
- Keep your inventory organized as you list. This is key to selling on eBay. Check it out: How to Organize your eBay Inventory
- Ship items that sell during the day every night. Don’t put it off until the morning. Check it out: How to Ship Items on eBay
- Keep your shipping cost low, this is how you make more.
- Retake your pictures and change up your title if your items are not selling. Check it out: How to Take Good Pictures
One thing to remember: if you don’t list, you don’t last. The more you list on eBay = the more you sell = the more you make. So don’t give up! Keep listing because eBay works.
